Bleached is a research-driven project, prompted by my internal dysphoric dialogues as a transwoman. My intention for this project was to explore ways in which I could illustratively capture the subject of dysphoria through corrosive materials on print. I began my experimentation with physical manipulation using bleach, baking soda, vinegar, and abrasive brushes and tools on images of feminine bodies. Playing with levels of time, aggravation, and tools I gradually eroded the image and their physical integrity. Over four months, I explored with this technique, starting on a smaller scale and progressively working larger.
